Why study for a GCSE in Business Studies?

 

While studying this course you will learn a lot about the world of work. You will be introduced to the

world of small businesses and will look at what makes someone a successful business person. You will find out how to develop an idea and spot an opportunity, and turn that into a successful business. You will understand how to make a business effective and manage money. You will also see how the world around us affects small businesses and all the people involved. As you move through the course you will learn about how to manage resources, people and finances.

Theme 1: Investigating small business

Theme 2: Building a business

• Topic 2.1 Growing the business.
• Topic 2.2 Making marketing decisions.
• Topic 2.3 Making operational decisions.
• Topic 2.4 Making financial decisions.
• Topic 2.5 Making human resource.
 


What happens in lessons?

 

Year 9 will focus on investigating a small business from startup & 10 will consist of building a business, looking how businesses grow into global brands.


Year 11 will mostly consist of recovering the topics learnt in Y9 and Y10, preparing students for the final two exams in the summer of Y11.
 

How will I be assessed?

Theme 1: Investigating small business

Written examination: 1 hour and 30 minutes.
50% of the qualification - 90 marks.

 

Theme 2: Building a business

Written examination: 1 hour and 30 minutes.
50% of the qualification - 90 marks.
 

What skills will I need?

 

Business is a very academic subject, which requires students to analyse various different businesses in differing situations, using the knowledge they have gained from the course, they will be required to make justified recommendations for future actions of that business.
