Geography Curriculum Intent

The geography curriculum at Winterhill School is designed to ensure that all national curriculum content is covered. In geography we aim to extend pupils’ thinking outside the parameters of their community, and understand the world across a range of scales. We want to enrich their current knowledge of location, place and environment - while giving them the skills to evaluate the world through the eyes of themselves and others. The geography curriculum intends to foster a mutual respect with others, by providing an understanding and tolerance of others - regardless of political or cultural differences. We aim to help students understand the interrelationships between people and the environment, and the responsibility we all have to improve this. The course aims to develop skills to interpret and apply their geographical knowledge, allowing them to apply an inquiry based approach to questions and hypotheses. Overall the curriculum aims to equip students with the knowledge and resilience to be aware of their place in the world, and the positive changes they can make to it.
