Winterhill School's response to Covid-19 (Coronavirus)
Thursday 19th March
Coronavirus update – school closure
As you are all now aware, all schools will close for the majority of students at 3pm tomorrow until further notice.
Learning for all students will continue using our remote learning platforms. Details of what students and parents can expect and should do can be found on our website, along with easy to follow ‘how to’ and user guides. I am speaking to all students in school before we close to make these high expectations clear and I would appreciate your support in reinforcing these expectations so that your child’s education continues with minimal disruption.
The news that examinations for Year 11 students have been cancelled was a shock to us all. We currently have no information about government plans to award qualifications but I can assure you that we will be working together to ensure that our students receive the grades that they deserve. I will keep Year 11 parents updated as information becomes available.
We will however, continue to provide educational provision for children identified by the government (yet to be finalised) to support the most vulnerable and families of front line services and key workers. Please contact us using the link on our website/Facebook page if this applies to you. Full details of this provision will be provided as soon as possible but it is our ambition to operate a 9am – 2pm day, starting on Monday 23rd March.
The school will continue to provide meals for children from families in receipt of free school meals according to government advice. Please see our website/Facebook page for details of how children will receive their meal during the closure period.
Finally, thank you all again for your support and understanding during this extremely challenging period. As a school community, we have been tremendously resilient and supportive of each other, in the true spirit of ‘The Winterhill Way’.
Please keep a close eye on our website/Facebook page for updates.
Very best wishes,
Mr S Rhodes
