Why study for a Certificate in ICT iMedia?
This is a new course that puts emphasis on the practical application of ICT in today’s ever changing
digital world. It is a single award course that covers four units (one exam 25% and three controlled assessment 75%). The units are based around producing high quality multimedia and graphical assets, which will assist you immensely in all future career options. The course can also lead students to ‘A’ levels in ICT and other computer related subjects at college and beyond.
What will I study?
R081 Pre-production skills Exam 25%
This unit will enable learners to understand preproduction skills used in the creative and digital media sector. It will develop their understanding of the client brief, time frames, deadlines and preparation techniques that form part of the planning and creation process.
R082 Creating digital graphics 25%
This unit is for learners to understand the basics of digital graphics editing for the creative and digital media sector. They will learn where and why digital graphics are used and what techniques are involved in their creation. This unit will develop learners’ understanding of the client brief, time frames, deadlines and preparation techniques as part of the planning and creation process.
R084 Storytelling with a comic strip 25%
This unit learners produce comic strips, as popular today as they have ever been in their history. They have evolved from their origins in the early part of the 20th century from simple story strips to become whole genres of interest which span the world. This unit will enable learners to understand the basics of comic strip creation. It will enable them to interpret a client brief, use planning and preparation techniques and to create their own comic strip using digital techniques.
R087 Creating interactive multimedia products 25%
In this unit learners build interactive multimedia products, these are used widely in everyday life and the creative and digital media sector. They are used in computer games, mobile phone applications, presentations and many other areas. This unit will enable learners to understand the basics of interactive multimedia products for the creative and digital media sector. They will learn where and why interactive multimedia is used and what features are needed for a given purpose. It will enable them to interpret a client brief, and to use time frames, deadlines and preparation techniques as part of the planning and creation process when creating an interactive multimedia product.
What happens in lessons?
Year 9 &10 will consist of practical lessons where you will use a range of software to create graphical and interactive products which will contribute towards your qualification through the controlled assessment (75% of the course). Year 11 will mostly consist of a mixture of practical and theory based lessons that will enable you to complete the theory exam (25% of the course)
How will I be assessed?
R081: You will complete a 2.5 hour practical paper-based examination. This exam will be worth 25% of the qualification.
R082, R084 & R087: These units takes a holistic approach to the assessment of knowledge, understanding and skills. You will demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the content through how well you perform the tasks in the project brief that will be given to you.
What skills will I need?
You will need the desire to develop the capacity for imaginative, innovative thinking, creativity and independent learning, along with the ability to think critically about planning and design of building interactive products.
