History Curriculum Intent
To equip students with a high-quality education to build on prior knowledge and understanding of Britain and the wider world’s past. To encourage students to be continuously resilient when learning about history. Lessons equip students with opportunities to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh-up evidence and develop perspective and judgement responsibly giving a balanced judgement. History is very important to help students to understand people’s lives, the process of change and continuity, the nature of the relationships between groups and the importance of respecting others. To develop SMSC, educating students about the role of government and British Values, as how acceptance and values have changed and developed over time. To further enhance students’ cultural capital through a variety of trips to broaden perspectives and experiences.
Why Study History?
‘Everyone knows that history is only for really clever people!’ History is for everyone who is interested in solving puzzles and developing an argument. Of course, you might decide to carry on studying history until you are a university professor, but you don’t have to! History teaches
us about who we are and where we come from; you don’t have to be really clever to be interested in that. Of course, you are expected to do a fair bit of reading and writing in history, but your teachers know how to make it possible for everyone to learn about the past, even if you’re not going to be a brain surgeon!
