Winterhill Engage, our dedicated SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) resource, is situated at the top of the lane, separate from the main school building. Significant investment has gone into its redevelopment, ensuring the environment is purpose-built to meet the needs of its students.

Integrated Resource Provision
This provision supports children with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), where SEMH is identified as their primary need. Winterhill Engage is designed to offer a structured and nurturing environment where students can thrive both academically and personally.

Winterhill Engage aims to provide academically capable students with SEMH needs the tailored support required to fully access and engage with our learning community. We are dedicated to helping students achieve positive outcomes and develop the skills necessary to participate meaningfully in society and transition successfully into adulthood.

Curriculum

Students within the integrated resource at Winterhill Engage follow a highly personalised timetable designed in line with their Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). These timetables are carefully tailored to reflect each student’s individual strengths, needs, and aspirations, and are regularly reviewed to ensure they remain relevant and effective.

The bespoke curriculum within the resource base allows students to access a broad and balanced education, specifically adapted to support their SEMH needs. In addition to academic subjects, all students engage in a structured life skills programme aligned with the Preparing for Adulthood framework. This ensures students are equipped with essential skills for independence, wellbeing, and successful integration into the wider community.

As students’ progress through the provision, a bespoke transition programme is developed to support their individual pathways beyond Winterhill School. This includes close collaboration with further education providers, training organisations, and other post-16 opportunities, ensuring each student is well-prepared for their next steps.

Admission Arrangements – Winterhill Engage Integrated Resource

At Winterhill Engage, we are committed to a collaborative and transparent admissions process that places the needs of the young person at its core. We work closely with the student, their parents or carers, current educational provision, and the Local Authority to ensure that the provision is suitable and appropriately matched to the student’s individual requirements.

The following criteria are used to determine whether Winterhill Engage can offer an appropriate placement:

• The student has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) which identifies Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) as the primary area of need.
• A supporting Educational Psychologist (EP) report clearly indicates the need for a specialist SEMH provision.
• All placements are subject to consultation via Rotherham’s EHCP process.
• The student requires specialist support and access to tailored facilities (e.g., small-group environments, calm spaces) that go beyond what is typically provided in a mainstream setting without SEMH-specific resources.
• The student’s cognitive ability falls within the expected range for mainstream education, with evidence provided through assessments or observations included in the EP report.
