Parents/Carers play a crucial role in supporting young people in career exploration by staying informed, engaged in conversations, and offering guidance while allowing young person’s autonomy.

Winterhill School will work in partnership with you to ensure that you are provided with careers information, advice and resources to enable you to support and guide our young people effectively.

As parents/carers you can better support and encourage our young people by helping explore various career paths and make informed choices about education and training. Your active involvement in the young person’s learning and activities, including career exploration, can positively impact academic performance and overall well-being.

Enquire to what jobs and careers they are interested in

• Discuss and access information, advice and guidance from all sections on https://www.winterhill.org.uk/key-information/careers/
• Monitor career school social media for updates and notification – Winterhill IAG Facebook
•  Access the year group parent/carer newsletter for information and websites to support research.
• Encourage them to seek out the advice and experiences in school but also in the real world of work. This will help them achieve their goals
• Help and support them with the steps they need to take

In partnerships with a range of career professionals, businesses and educational providers we will support our young people’s career development in a number of ways including:

• Information and discussion in lessons and assemblies to help them make decisions about your future
• Activities and events
• Access to careers advisers in a variety of ways including individual meetings, drop-in sessions, enrichment activities, parents and option evenings and on results days
• Careers information and computer-based careers programmes
• Information and updates on notice boards, newsletters and websites
