English Curriculum Intent

Within English we strive to equip our students with a lifelong appreciation for the impact of the written word and develop resilient critical thinkers who can interrogate the world around them. Our English curriculum gives students the opportunity to:

• use a range of appropriate and ambitious vocabulary to be able to articulate their thoughts and feelings with precision, clarity, fluency and respect
• experience the pleasure of reading a variety of texts and to explore the full spectrum of human experience
• appreciate the depth and power of the English literary heritage and beyond
• develop cultural capital that will remove barriers to comprehension and achievement both in school and in the world of work
• inspire creativity, whilst also developing our students into responsible and independent learners.
